Why Is Cosmetic Surgery Abroad Popular?

Why is cosmetic surgery abroad popular?

by

Rutland

In the past, it was difficult to find decent cosmetic surgery abroad. If you tried to find a decent clinic in Turkey, where our CTG Healthcare surgeons are based, you would have been hard pressed to find more than a handful of doctors, who were willing only to carry out the simplest of cosmetic procedures such as tummy tucks and gastric band surgery. However, there are many highly skilled surgeons working in the field today, offering both cosmetic surgery and cosmetic dentistry abroad, at very affordable prices.

What’s more, in the past decade, we have seen the prices of budget airline flights plummet, with companies such as Easy Jet offering extremely cheap flights to many destinations in Europe. This has made travelling for cosmetic surgery abroad, a much more viable option, financially. This, combined with the ever rising cost of cosmetic surgery in Britain compared with that in other countries, such as Turkey, has been a huge factor in the rising number of patients travelling abroad to get the surgery they so desperately want, in order to make themselves happy. It is now possible to get cosmetic surgery abroad for less than the cost in the UK, without having to sacrifice your safety or settle for lower standards, so why not travel and get a good deal?

Another reason why travelling abroad for surgery is so popular at the moment is the fact that you can combine a holiday and various leisure activities with the surgery. For example, if you are travelling to Turkey for a cosmetic procedure on a Friday, you could head out on the Monday, spend most of the week enjoying the sun and having a fun time experiencing a new culture, then head to the clinic for your surgery before returning home to recuperate and show off the new you.

South Australia enters week-long lockdown to contain COVID-19 Delta variant spread

Friday, July 23, 2021

With five active cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19, South Australia begun a one-week lockdown on Monday. Announcing the lockdown, state Premier Steven Marshall declared “we have no alternative but to impose some fairly heavy and immediate restrictions”.

The first case out of South Australia’s active cases was presented to Modbury Hospital on Sunday night, having returned from Argentina earlier this month. The fifth, which Premier Marshall noted as “far more worrying”, visited The Greek on Halifax restaurant at the same time as someone who was later confirmed to be carrying the virus. Chief Public Health Officer for the state Nicola Spurrier said “if anyone has been at The Greek on Halifax they need to get into quarantine and get tested”.

In accordance with new regulations, there are only five reasons for South Australians to leave home: essential work, shopping for essential goods such as food, exercise, but only with people from the same household and within 2.5 kilometers (2 mi) of home, medical reasons (which includes testing and vaccination against the coronavirus, but excludes elective and cosmetic surgery), and caregiving.

Schools have closed for all but children of essential workers, with online learning having begun on Thursday. Face masks are also be mandated for those who leave home. ABC News reported that “support for businesses is expected to be announced…”, with all non-essential retail required to close under the new regulations.

English club Tottenham Hotspur dropped out of the UEFA Cup after a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane against Spanish side Sevilla. Spurs lost the first game 2-1 in Spain, and the tie was enough to see Sevilla through 4-3 on aggregate.

Sevilla had a 2-0 lead after just eight minutes in London. Steed Malbranque scored an own goal after 3 minutes as he attempted to clear the ball off the line. The ball scuffed off the bottom of his boot and bobbled into the net. Former Tottenham player Freddie Kanoute then doubled the visitors lead only minutes later after he collected the ball, played a one two, and danced around keeper Paul Robinson. Before the end of the first half, Dimitar Berbatov struck the post off a hammered shot, but the score remained 2-0.

Tottenham struck back in the second half and substitute Jermain Defoe scored minutes after coming on to cut Sevilla’s lead. Just a minute later, Aaron Lennon tied the game, putting pressure on Sevilla. Two more chances emerged for Tottenham, one through defender Michael Dawson and Dimitar Berbatov, but neither where able to convert. With only stoppage time remaining, and Spurs in need of two goals to advance, frustration played out as Teemu Tainio was red carded for a dangerous challenge on Puerta.

Sevilla was one of three Spanish sides to advance to the semi-finals Thursday, and they will face Osasuna in the next round, guaranteeing there will be a Spanish club in the final. Tottenham have only the Premiership left to contend for now, as they look to book a European spot for next season against Wigan Athletic on the 15th.

Four arrested in three Naperville, Illinois prostitution stings

Monday, March 15, 2010

An undercover investigation by Naperville, Illinois law enforcement has led to the arrest last Thursday of four people allegedly involved in prostitution. The stings came after police received tips that people were using websites like Craigslist and Backpage.com to sell sexual performances in Naperville hotels.

Patricia H. Scoleri of Naperville was arrested after an unidentified neighbor observed consistently suspicious activity at Scoleri’s home. Traffic was unusually heavy and consisted mostly of luxury cars in an otherwise quiet, middle-class neighborhood. Also, the visitors were mainly middle-aged men, and an odd string of lavender-colored lights were hung on the front window.

Police say Scoleri worked alone. She was arrested at 2 p.m. local time (2000 UTC) and is charged with violation of anti-prostitution laws, anti-cannabis laws, and the Massage Licensing Act. She apparently has four children, but the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has neither contacted her nor received a police report on her.

The second sting occurred at 5:30 p.m the same day (2330 UTC) and resulted in the arrest of Chicago resident Tonya M. Adams. She is charged with prostitution and driving without a license. Another sting about an hour later resulted in the arrests of Jessica M. Walley, a Skokie resident, and Mark A. Williams, a self-admitted Schaumburg gang member. “Walley was charged with prostitution and unlawful possession of cannabis. Williams was charged with pimping, obstructing a peace officer, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance,” reports WBBM News Radio 780.

All four suspects are free, having paid the required ten percent of their $1,000 bail. They may face additional charges related to crack cocaine discovered during the police investigation. Arraignment is scheduled for next month at the DuPage County Circuit Courthouse in Wheaton.

High percentage of US patients on placebos without knowing it

Friday, January 4, 2008

A new study amongst doctors in the United States on the use of placebos—pills with no medical effect—shows that almost half of the questioned practitioners prescribe placebos, most of them within the last year.

The majority of 466 faculty physicians at Chicago-area medical schools interviewed by a research group of the University of Chicago stated that placebos are useful to calm a patient down or to respond to demands for medication that the doctor disagrees with, i.e. “to get the patient to stop complaining”.

96 percent of the physicians surveyed believe that placebos can have therapeutic effects. Close to 40 percent stated that placebos could benefit patents physiologically as well as mentally.

Twelve percent of surveyed physicians think that placebos should be banned from clinical practice. Among the doctors who prescribed them, one in five said they outright lied to patients by claiming a placebo was medication. But more often the physicians came up with ways to explain like that “this may help you but I’m not sure how it works.”

The American Medical Association (AMA), the largest association of U.S. doctors and medical students, tells its members that “[p]hysicians may use placebos for diagnosis or treatment only if the patient is informed of and agrees to its use.” The research, published in Journal of General Internal Medicine this week, is the first major U.S. study of doctors on the use of placebos since 1979.

Milpitas Fire Department S Failure To Communicate

Milpitas Fire Department s Failure to Communicate

by

John Cole

Not long ago I was asked to talk about a person who was up for being hired by the Milpitas Fire Department. I was asked several questions pertaining to this persons background and personality because I was a former boss so to speak of this person and the City of Milpitas was conducting a final background check. Anyone who knows me knows that I will give whatever it takes in time for this sort of hire because it is a noble and honorable position that requires the utmost training and supervision and with all that, a person who has a dream to save lives and property.

This person was eventually hired and it has been one year since his first year on and is at the end of the probationary period. What I have come to find out is that this person is now being recommended for termination of employment. WHAT???

How come? What happened? As a peace officer myself and an Investigator and an HR Specialist having consulted with many fortune 500 companies and including both police and fire agencies, I have uncovered what I see is a failure to communicate within the Milpitas Fire Department. What do I mean by this? Let s take a look at the situation and keep it simple.

First, Standing Operating Procedure requires that ALL new firefighters receive adequate and proper training including being assigned to at least 3 different supervisors during the year, in this instance it would be a person with the rank of Captain or above.

This person in particular had ONE person, ONE Captain (Acting Captain only) during the entire process of the year. This person happens to be a firefighter and paramedic only. This person happens to be a woman who had NOT passed her Captains exam. She didn t even pass her Engineer s exam. I m not putting down this person because she happens to be a woman, but it appears there is some preferential treatment going on here between her and the chief. Some questions I have are: Have you as a Chief caused the previous new employees the same treatment? Is there a new precedence that took place BEFORE this new firefighter came on board that can show this is how it s done? Or, did you simply place him there for the sake of putting him there because of some other events and you just did not get around to taking care of his training properly and/or hand down to other rank and file officers in your agency to handle this?

My question to the Chief is, Why did you place this person with this acting captain and keep him with her the entire time of his probation ? This is not something a Chief would forget about unless the chief wanted to ensure failure from the start. Just my professional opinion since I ve seen this sort of behaviour flaw several times.

This decision to place a new employee with a person for one year let alone the inability for her to pass an exam for her rank-to-be causing a person to be under a lot of stress and causes an unsafe Hostile work environment basically bad blood between the two and when one of them is a woman who can t pass her exams (the ability to study and hold knowledge by personal efforts by proving your personal ability to lead) and exerts power over a more younger and dominate male employee who has no choice BUT to do as he is told gives the new employee no way out.

The Chief (Clare Frank) also knows this and knows that he can t go to the union and complain because he is not a full-time employee yet until after probation. I can t help but think that this is a inadequate chief of fire because she is an attorney and an instructor and a consultant on curriculum development for the National Fire Academy s higher education program.

When the day came for his final review with the Chief our new firefighter sat in the chiefs office and was told that all recommendations are for her to dismiss him all from the same person. However, our young firefighter came back at her with their SOP and she stated she did not know about this. ?????????? Again, a Fire Chief of the City of Milpitas who teaches and consults at the National Fire Academy s educational program did not know about this? I don t buy it! I never have and being a chief does not excuse you for this deviant behavior. It is neglectful and disrespectful to all the men and women in uniform.

However, our chief came back and said, sign this piece of paper that says, I won t sue the city of Milpitas if I get fired and if you don t, I ll fire you right now and you can go home . Well now she made this person who had and has no leg to stand on a Band Leader . For those of you who know The God Father where Don Corleone assures a band leader either your signature or your brains will be on this contract today, this is where it came from. Is this Standing Operating Procedure that the City of Milpitas condones? Is this what the City Attorney drew up for all agency s in their jurisdiction must do in certain cases? Could this action have broken any laws perhaps? Could it have violated this persons rights? Is there any law that I don t know of that is on the books that says, when presented to you by a superior officer a contract and you are forced to sign it, you must sign it whether you have time to read it or not or get fired. I don t think so, but this is what appears has happened. You would think that this sort of tactics no longer happens in our society, but I could be wrong.

As an HR professional, I am concerned and would almost bet my pet mouse Micky on the fact that this agreement to not sue the fire department had a Severance Agreement and a Separation Agreement attached to it whether now or later, but the fact remains, his rights were violated and he had every right to say no to this for further viewing by a competent attorney or a union representative before signing it. However, this was not the case, it was either sign it now or be fired on the spot. He signed it!

He now has another week and this time, under the supervision of others. However, this is a pipe-dream in my opinion because it just gives the chief more time to work something up against him and in her favor. All in all, Chief Franks of the Milpitas Fire Department failed this person and in turn failed the department, it s members and the citizens of its city, the Mayor and the entire elected city council and admitted she did not know anything about SOP.

Pathetic and disturbing. I wonder if the Mayor knows about this behavior and what would the mayor do in this situation if he knew about it? I don t know yet, but it s clear and evident that the buck stops at the top and one chief in my opinion should read the following:

EEOC vs. Lockheed Martin case # 8:05-cv-00287-RWT. The case was ruled on in January of this year for trying to force an employee to sign such a waiver and Lockheed Martin lost big time. The courts ruled it was unlawful and retaliatory.

I my professional opinion, the City of Milpitas should place Chief Franks on administrative leave immediately and possibly the city attorney and conduct a thorough investigation of the entire department and this incident with regard to their past and current hiring processes especially about probationary employees and find out who exactly can do their jobs, this includes both sexes being able to lift a ladder and climb and do all the things a firefighter should be able to do or else be relieved of duty. You are supposed to be fit and able to rescue and save the citizens of your city. In light of all this, the management of the agency is failing their fire-fighters because they refuse to communicate properly and with current and up-to-date employment and union facts.

What, if any, will Mayor Jose Esteves do? It remains to be seen. What will you do, Mr. Mayor ?

Protecting the civil rights of civil servants at large…this is what John Cole has done for several years by exposing lax government workers and leaders who run their agencies dangerously.

Eurovision ’73 winner Anne Marie David discusses her four-decade career and the Contest, past and present

Monday, February 16, 2009

In the 1970s, she was one of the most popular female vocalists in France, and became well-known internationally. Anne Marie David, from Arles in the south of France, parlayed her initial success from playing Mary Magdalene in the French production of Jesus Christ Superstar into taking home the “grand prix” at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973. Her winning song, “Tu te reconnaîtras” (You will recognize yourself), became a Europe-wide hit that spring.

At the height of her popularity, David perfomed world tours, and even lived abroad in Turkey for a time. In 1979, she tried once again to win the Eurovision, and placed a respectable third. Her song “Je suis l’enfant soleil” (I’m a child of the sun) became similarly popular across France and in the Francophone nations.

As time went on, however, her place in the French music scene became less certain. Touring the world had taken a personal toll, and David decided to retire from music completely in 1987. However, with the help of her fan base, she was coaxed out of retirement in 2003 and is returning to a part of her life that she tried to leave, but never left her. Celebrating four decades in the music scene, David is looking forward to adventurous new projects and a newfound zest for life.

Anne Marie David corresponded with Wikinews’ Mike Halterman about her eventful career, her personal anecdotes regarding living abroad, her successes in past Eurovision contests and her grievances with the way the show is produced today. This is the second in a series of interviews with past Eurovision contestants, which will be published sporadically in the lead-up to mid-May’s next contest in Moscow.
