International participants showcase different industry cultures at 2008 Taipei Game Show

Friday, January 25, 2008

B2B Trade Area of Taipei Game Show, criticized by trade buyers last year, but accompanied with 2008 Taiwan Digital Content Forum, moved to the second floor at Taipei World Trade Center for world-wide participants with a better exchange atmosphere this year.

Not only local OBMs (Softstar Entertainment, Soft-World International Corp., International Games System Corp., …, etc.) but also companies from New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea showcased different specialists with multiple styles. Especially on South Korea, participated members from G? Trade Show (Game Show & Trade, All-Round, aka Gstar) showcased gaming industry of South Korea and the G? upcoming at this November with brochures.

In the 2-days Digital Content Forum, world-class experts not only shared industry experiences, members from Taiwan Gaming Industry Association also discussed and forecasted marketing models for gaming industry. With participations from governmental, industrial, and academical executives world-wide, this forum helps them gained precious experiences of digital content industry from several countries.

According to the Taipei Computer Association, the show and forum organizer, the digital content industry in Taiwan was apparently grown up recent years as Minister of Economic Affairs of the Republic of China Steve Ruey-long Chen said at Opening Ceremony yesterday. Without R&Ds from cyber-gaming, and basic conceptions from policies and copyright issues, this (digital content) industry will be fallen down in Taiwan. If this industry wanted to be grown up in sustainability, gaming OBMs in Taiwan should independently produce different and unique games and change market style to market brands and games to the world.

My Ex Hasn’t Called Me How Can I Get Them To Make Contact?

Submitted by: Charles Uadiale

“My ex hasn’t called me! What should I do?”

It’s a question that is common. The main step on the road to reconciliation and a necessary part of reversing your breakup is getting back in touch with your ex boyfriend. Moreover, it’s as well one of the most difficult steps in the whole process. If your contacts are too much, or do it too often, you could definitely discover that you are trying to get your ex boyfriend back in the wrong way. However if you wait too long, and before you know it your ex boyfriend could begin going out with someone else. It’s a difficult balance of action and patient, and even those people who have experience needs help when it comes to this issue.

The best way to re-opening the lines of communication is getting your ex boyfriend to make contact with you. To accomplish something like this, the method you use are really quit simple, if you are aware of what they are. However, before you think of taking this step, there is something you should do first, and it’s one of the initial step you should make whe attempting to get back your ex boyfriend after the relationship has ended: stay away from it for a while, and stop all communication.

That’s correct – Once you have broken contact for a while with your ex boyfriend is the best result you will get in re-connecting with him. Staying away from your ex boyfriend, you are giving him time to miss you and begin thinking about you. When your ex boyfriend breaks up with you, what he wants initailly is some space – this is really not a bad sign. The issue here is that a lot of ladies who were dumped by their man are not prepared to give that space… they have a feeling that they can sort things out and reverse the break up, and this really limit their chances of winning their ex back.

If you have done this at any time, it’s certain that you have done things like drive by their home or job, excessively call your ex boyfriend, leave him flowers or even send him long notes. You’ve sent text messages… emails… Whatever you thought would make your ex boyfriend realise that you love him you have probably done all. The truth is that, a lot of the things you did was for your own good: you just did it simply because it made you feel much comfortable and better. You actually left out your ex boyfriend’s feelings out of what you did, since you were just overwhelmed with the ulge to make contact.

At the moment, you are probably thinking “why my ex boyfriend hasn’t called me?” little did you know that the answer is quit simple: the reason is simply because your ex boyfriend does not miss you yet. As soon as he is left alone for a few weeks to think about the break up, he will soon find out that he requires so much more than he initially though he did. If your ex boyfriend doesn’t hear from you soon this will send him to a panic mode, as well as begin fearing the worst. Are you over the break up? Did you move on without him? Are you going out with another man? These panic will be in the mind of your ex boyfriend, giving him the overwhelming need to be aware precisely what you are doing. And because you haven’t talked to him at any time? This is the moment you ex boyfriend will call you.

“How can I get my ex boyfriend to make contact? Are there other ways of communicating with him?”

Contact ex boyfriend etiquette demands you to stay away from your ex boyfriend for sometime soon after the break up. However, after a while has passed? To get your ex boyfriend back, there are a lot of good techniques you can use to initiate contact once more. Some of the most common and easiest techniques can be found below:

1. The “I Found Your Stuff” Call – Look for something that belongs to your ex boyfriend that he left at your house, as well as call him offering to return it (or have him pick it up). If you want your ex boyfriend to call you back, ensure you make the call at the time you know he won’t be home, so you can leave a message. He will be curious to talk with you, if you have broken contact for a while. Ensure the thing you are calling about is important, and not something insignificant like a music CD or hai

ush.

2. The “Congratulations!” Call – Call to congratulate him on something. Maybe he got promoted, your ex boyfriend’s birthday, graduated from school, or accolade or received some other kind of award at the time the relationship has ended. This is another good excuse to call and wish him the best. However, calling when he is not home will definitely get your ex boyfriend to call you back, which is your target.

3. The “How’s Mom Doing?” Call – If you got close to his family at the time you dated your ex boyfriend, asking about how they are doing is nice. Especially in the situation where your ex has a brother or sister about to go to college for the first time, relatives in the hospital about to undergo surgery… this is a great excuse to call him asking “Hey, how’s your dad been doing?” or whatever the situation. Since you have not called for a while your ex boyfriend won’t suspect at once that you have hiden agenda, and will even be happy that you called to know how his relatives are doing.

There are several other powerful ideas for getting your ex boyfriend to make first contact with you once more, however being aware of what to do when he calls is even more important. As soon as that call comes you need a step by step strategy of action. Rather than sitting around thinking why hasn’t my ex boyfriend called me, you have to get ready for the time when he finally do call. Knowing precisely what you’re going to say and exactly how to deal with the conversation are two important aspect of winning back your ex boyfriend.

To win back you ex boyfriend, you need to get him to make contact. An important role in getting back your ex boyfriend is Communication. Know what to do next, and do not be afraid to make it. Only being serious can you work toward your ultimate goal: putting your ex boyfriend back in your arms once more.

Dorothy’s dress from Wizard of Oz sells for £140,000

Wednesday, April 27, 2005

The auction hammer came down Wednesday, in London, on Judy Garland’s blue gingham dress, worn in the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz.” It sold for £140,000 (about US$262,157.40).

The identity of the buyer, who sealed the deal on the telephone, was not immediately revealed. Bonham auctioneers told reporters there was a pre-sale estimate of £35,000 (about US$65,529.47).

The dress, one of the most recognizable in the movie world, was made for the 17-year-old Garland who had a 27-inch (68-centimetre) waist. Her name is still on a tag on an inside hem. It was auctioned as part of a sale of rock and film memorabilia and was described as a “cherished memory for millions of fans worldwide.”

The story of the “Wizard of Oz,” which sealed Garland’s legend as a worldwide star, tells the story of a young Kansan, Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog Toto. They are whisked away from their rural Kansas home by a tornado to a magical realm called OZ.

In their travels, they meet other now-famous characters, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.

Although the film started with only modest success, it has since become a screen classic.

New Zealand runs low on 20 cent coins

Tuesday, December 5, 2006

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand wrote to retails banks warning them that there will be a shortage on 20 cent coins (NZ$0.20) leading up to Christmas. They have now announced that they have distributed 4.75 million new twenty cent coins in the past week alone “…close to the number issued in a typical year.”

Ten million new coins are expected to arrive in the next few days.

The Reserve Bank is wondering where all the new coins went, just five weeks after the new design was first introduced. Brian Lang, currency manager for the Reserve Bank, said: “The pattern of demand for new coins has been markedly different to that for the old coins.” He suggests that people are keeping them in jars, like the old design coins.

Some stores are already unable to give out twenty cent coins as they don’t have any according to the Newmarket Business Association.

Mr Lang said: “To put this into perspective, by 30 November, the Bank had issued almost as many 20c coins (49.6m) as 10c coins (53.0m). In the past issue of 20 cent coins would normally have been about half the amount of 10 cent coins.”

The head of Newmarket Business Association, Cameron Brewer, said: “…the Reserve Bank told us that they’d done a lot of work and that everything was going to be just fine. Well here we are just five weeks into the new coins and only days away from the Christmas rush, and the country’s running out of its own currency.”

Mr Lang said: “The Bank has sufficient supplies of 10c and 50c coins for several years’ normal issues.”

“…tens of millions of the old 20 cent pieces sit idle because they are no longer legal tender,” Mr Brewer said referring to the old ‘silver’ coins that were used before the introduction of new coins.

The Reserve Bank still doesn’t know why the pattern of demand of twenty cent coins has changed.

“… such a staggering miscalculation by the Reserve Bank should never have happened,” Mr Brewer said.

Tips For Giving Feedback In A Positive Manner

By Ryan Scholz

Managers are always giving feedback. It can be to people who report to them, to peers, or even bosses. The ability to give feedback in a positive manner is an essential skill for building positive relationships in today’s business world.

An exercise I do with most of the groups that I work with is to have each person in the group to identify one strength and one opportunity for improvement for each other person in the group. When I introduce this activity, I usually get substantial resistance. Often members of the group don’t want to be put into a position of ‘criticizing’ others. I remind them that the assignment is not to criticize, but rather just give people some observations about things that would help them to do better.

Once we get into the activity, the reservations and resistance quickly disappear. I find that when people approach this feedback with a certain attitude, that the process becomes positive. The first attitude is that they must own the feedback that they are giving. I insist that the person giving the feedback look at the other person. The feedback must be preceded by the word ‘I’. The feedback is based on personal observations, not hearsay from others. If a manager cannot verify feedback with their own experiences, it should not be given to the other person.

The second attitude is that the feedback is intended to help the other person, not make them feel bad or embarrass them. When people perceive that the person giving them feedback has their interest at heart, they are much more likely to accept the feedback. An important trait that high performance teams possess is the ability to give everyone on the team feedback that will help the team to improve.

The third attitude is that in order to give feedback, you must be willing to receive feedback. The group exercise is designed so that each person experiences giving and receiving feedback. This sets the tone for the entire relationship. After each person hears their strengths and weaknesses from the other group members, they are asked to summarize what they heard, without either agreeing or disagreeing. Too many discussions between bosses and subordinates are one way – the boss gives feedback without asking for or accepting feedback from the subordinate.

The final attitude that I find is feedback that is simple, clear, and specific has the most impact. I once had a person who worked for me who had a bad habit of firing off a strongly worded email when he got upset with someone. Rather than lecture him on this, I drew a picture of a hand grenade with the red circle around it and a red line through the circle. The message was ‘no hand grenades allowed’. He fully understood my feedback and actually posted the picture in his office as a reminder. I find in the group sessions that people inject humor and laughter as they give feedback, particularly the areas for improvement. The person gets the message in a positive manner.

Teen accused of Anzac Day terror plot applies for bail

Friday, May 8, 2015

An 18-year-old Victorian teen accused of plotting a terrorist attack on Anzac Day applied for bail at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. It is alleged that Harun Causevic and his associate, Sedvdet Besim, also 18, planned to run down and behead a police officer before stealing his gun to harm others at Anzac Day services in Melbourne.

Federal prosecutor Andrew Doyle stated the allegations made against Mr Causevic at the start of the hearing. Mr Doyle said Mr Causevic and Mr Besim had planned to carry out a terror attack in Melbourne if they weren’t able to access passports to head overseas.

Denis Scott, an Australian Federal Police agent, told the court how Mr Causevic had allegedly called AFP and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation officers “dogs” during the process of trying to obtain a passport in March.

It was also revealed that Mr Besim had been speaking to a 14-year-old boy in the United Kingdom over the Internet. The boy had been portraying himself as an older man with experience in terrorism. Agent Scott told the court that these conversations were conducted through an online voice program, and that the two spoke about planning to carry out an attack on Anzac Day.

It was alleged that Mr Causevic was an accomplice in organising the terror plot in Melbourne. The court heard of a number of incidents where Mr Causevic’s extremist behaviours were put on show. In one instance he was involved in a car accident in which he allegedly told the driver involved that ISIS was “going to kill” Australia. It was also alleged that Mr Causevic had once spat on a police vehicle and waved an Islamic flag at officers.

During a search at Mr Causevic’s home police found weapons such as knives, a tactical vest and an Islamic flag. Agent Scott told the court that if bail was granted, Mr Causevic could put the safety of the public and police force in danger.

The defence argued that there was no evidence to show that Mr Causevic had been in contact with the boy Mr Besim had been speaking with in the UK. Evidence was given from some members of the Islamic Council of Victoria suggesting that Mr Causevic was capable of being guided away from extremist Islamic ideology if he is granted bail.

Magistrate Suzie Cameron is expected to make her decision on Mr Causevic’s bail application on Friday.

Ten-year-old computer glitch prevents delivery of 1,380 Canadian health results

Sunday, May 24, 2009

The Saskatoon Health Region in Saskatchewan, Canada recently discovered a fax machine problem which had not relayed almost 1,500 X-rays, Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, ultrasounds, and other medical imaging test results to doctors.

The fax machine is part of the automated Radiology Information System. An audit revealed that medical diagnostic tests involving results dating back a decade have been affected by the broken fax machine.

On May 6, a doctor called the health region officials seeking follow up on a patient’s report. Staff who delved into it, found that the report was not sent from the system.

Now, two weeks later, this same patient has still not been contacted by the health region.

“It has taken some time to work with the patient’s physician. That was important — to get more information and more detail because we want that patient’s physician to be involved in the discussion with the patient,” Dr. David Poulin, vice-president of medical affairs for The Saskatoon Health Region, said. “This is a system error and that’s just what it was — an error. This doesn’t reflect in any way on the quality of work regional staff have done and continue to do.”

An internal review revealed that, of 2.2 million diagnostic tests performed, at least 1,380 had not been sent out by the malfunctioning fax machine.

The health region will embark on contacting each of the 1,380 patients and their physicians to make sure that the results have been received and if any health care was compromised.

Patients can also contact the health region via a newly set up hotline to make enquiries.

“We think it would actually be good practice if physician offices could have a system to check whether they have received important reports,” said Poulin, “The common practice appears to be in many doctors’ offices, particularly family physician offices, that they don’t respond to the report until it arrives. So, they basically are waiting for the report to arrive in their office by fax and it’s at that point that they look at it and decide what action to take.”

City Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital and Royal University Hospital were the three city hospitals affected. Saskatoon has a population of roughly 233,923, and the hospitals also serve the surrounding rural areas.

Ironically the faulty fax machine was discovered the same week that provincial medical officials began to review approximately 70,000 radiology tests conducted in Yorkton. Officials there doubt the competence of the physician who first interpreted the radiology results.

Eating On A Budget In Las Vegas Restaurants

By Dustin Garrido

A Las Vegas vacation for many familys is an experience to enjoy for everyone with all of the food, drink, gambling, and kid-friendly games. In fact, one of the biggest reasons that people visit Las Vegas is for the delectible Las Vegas restaurants. You do not have to be wealthy to experience many of the exquisite Las Vegas restaurants – you just have to know where to go!

Las Vegas has so much more than gambling to offer its thousands of visitors. The days when gambling was the only income stream for casinos is gone, the casinos have had to develop a multitude of income avenues to remain successful. The Las Vegas of old is nothing like the Las Vegas of today. Las Vegas has been changing year-to-year to cater to all walks of life and become the ultimate travel destination for everyone! Look at the Las Vegas sky line right now and you will be hard pressed to find any of the old Las Vegas casinos.

Las Vegas is quickly becoming a city that offers five star world-class food to its residents and tourists. Las Vegas has some of the best dining anywhere on the planet. Many of the best dining experiences are located within the Las Vegas strip casinos, but they would not be as successful as they are if there was not a reason to keep the tables full. Obviously, diners don’t tend to dine if the food isn’t any good, and for a first-class Las Vegas restaurant, one bad review will travel around the world faster than ten good reviews. This means that all of the world-class Las Vegas restaurants really must work hard to earn their badges of honor in order to bring in the customers to stay in business.

However, not all of the Las Vegas restaurants will cost you an arm and a leg. I personally tend to look for the dining bargains and that is what this particular article focuses on. There are many great places to eat in Las Vegas that will not have you busting open your wallet. Now my wife is a steak loving woman so I always try to look for good steak bargains around town. She loves the Sahara’s Caravan Cafe. Here you can get a complete prime rib dinner with a baked potato and your choice of soup or salad for only $8.99 (4:30pm to 7pm). They even offer a large T-bone steak dinner for just $13.99. This is truly one of the many unknown Las Vegas restaurant gems that is known for providing good food at a price that easy on your wallet.

This is just one of the many Las Vegas restaurants that a family can get an affordable, and great tasting meal in a Las Vegas strip casino. Not all great bargains involve steaks though, as there are a lot of high quality, inexpensive Las Vegas restaurants to be found. Many Las Vegas casinos offer valuable coupon books, provided that you ask for them at the front desk. Please note that you will want to be cautious of these coupons because many of them have fine print. So make sure to read the coupons fine print before you try to use it! Oftentimes, they will have some type of restriction that could cost you in the long run. However, using coupons effectively can and will save you money that you can then use for whatever you desire! Go ahead and put some of that money you saved on dinner and put it on the tables – you just might get lucky!

Eating cheap in Las Vegas by no means indicates a lack of quality. While it may not be as pricey as some of the five star Las Vegas restaurant offerings, you will find that a lot of the cheaper places to eat will taste just as good as many of the more high-class Las Vegas restaurants, and it’s just nice to get away from buffet food lines once in a while during your Las Vegas stay. You can only endure so many buffets before they all begin looking and tasting alike.
