Monday, December 21, 2015

Munich-based football club Bayern Munich yesterday announced their current manager Pep Guardiola would remain only to this season’s end. Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti would replace the Spaniard next season.

Bayern under Guardiola won back-to-back Bundesliga titles and one German Cup since summer of 2013. Ancelotti, winner of three UEFA Champions Leagues — two for A.C. Milan, one for Real Madrid — would sign for three years with the German Champions. Besides the Champions Leagues, he also won the Premier League with Chelsea F.C.

It’s an honour for me to be part of this great club next season, FC Bayern Munich.

44-year-old Guardiola previously coached the current FIFA Club World Cup champions FC Barcelona, and won the Champions League with the Catalonia club twice.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the club’s Chief Executive, praised Guardiola’s contributions to Bayern after confirming the news. 56-year-old Ancelotti said “It’s an honour for me to be part of this great club next season, FC Bayern Munich. When I knew of the club’s interest I didn’t want to consider any other offer. I honestly wish FC Bayern Munich and my friend Pep Guardiola the best for the current season.” He also thanked the Club via tweet yesterday evening, “Thanks ! @FCBayernEN #MiaSanMia”.

Bayern player Thomas Müller said “We’ll see what happens. Regardless of who is coach, the squad just wants to keep winning”.Bayern is now scheduled to face Italian Juventus F.C. in the 2015–16 UEFA Champions League Last 16.

The Advantages Of Purchasing Hollow Metal Doors For Your Home Or Business

byAlma Abell

When building a house or just replacing the doors on the home you live in there are many different choices on what type of doors you will have installed on it. There are wooden doors, glass doors and metal doors to choose from. One thing you should look at is which type of door will withstand the test of time. You will not want to have to replace the door after just a few years due to wear and tear from use, weather and other elements that cause the item to look shabby or wear out. One such type of door you may want to seriously consider checking into are different styles of Hollow Metal Doors.

These types of doors are strong, durable and will last for many years to come. Through tests hollow doors will surpass other types of doors when it comes to security, safety from vandalism or fire and also in sound reduction. All of these reasons are very important to the safety and comfort of your family. Also when it comes to lasting through the wear and tear of elements it has been shown that these types of doors outlast the others that are on the market. There is less maintenance and upkeep than with any other type of door. Do you want to spend time every year repainting a door when you can purchase one that does not need it done as often? These types of doors can be repaired easier and cheaper than having to replace the standard wooden doors.

While all of those things are important reasons to purchase the metal doors you may want to consider something else that will benefit the world for many years to come. Have you seen what wooden doors look like after their time has passed? A Wooden door could pollute the environment either in the landfill or air by burning them. The Hollow Metal Doors are also a great advantage to the environment. Since metal and steel can be recycled it is keeping them out of the landfill. These doors can be melted down and recycled into something else that can be used for many years to come. Recycling is an important part in protecting the earth for our future generations. 2006 U.S. Congressional Elections

Wednesday, November 8, 2006

As of 10:00 p.m EST November 8, 2006, the Democratic Party is projected to have gained control of both the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate in the 2006 United States general elections. MSNBC projects that the Democrats now control 234 seats in the House of Representatives, 16 more seats than the 218 needed to control the House of Representatives as all 435 seats were up for election. In the Senate, where the balance of power is closer, one-third of all seats were up for grab. As of 10:00 p.m. EST, AP and Reuters were projecting that the Democrats had picked up all six seats they needed to retake the Senate, including the seats of incumbents Rick Santorum (Penn.), Lincoln Chafee (R.I.), Jim Talent (Missouri), Mike DeWine (Ohio), John Tester (Montana), and Jim Webb (VA). The Tester victory by less than 3,000 votes was projected at approximately 2 p.m. EST after the State of Montana announced the results of overnight recounts. Democrat Jim Webb has prevailed in that race by slightly more than 7,000 votes, though his opponent has not conceded and a recount may still occur.

Kiribati acquires international funding for solar power

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Last Tuesday, AusAID Australia and the World Bank’s Global Environment Fund (GEF) reached an agreement to give the government of Kiribati US$5 million (AU$4,779,000, NZ$5,985,000, €3,885,000) to install solar panels around the country capital, located on the Tarawa atoll. According to Business Desk of the Brunei Times, AusAID promised AU$3.2 million in funding, while GEF promised US$1 million. The country was the first in the Pacific to make a deal with the World Bank.

The funding was part of a US$530 million (NZ$635 million) package announced at yesterday’s Pacific Energy Summit in Auckland involving New Zealand and the European Union, Australia, the Asian Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the World Bank Group, and the United Arab Emirates. Also at the summit yesterday, New Zealand’s Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully had announced a national commitment of USD$54,262,000 (AU$51,861,000 NZ$65 million, €42,178,000) to Pacific region energy solutions, of which US$8,348,000 (AU$8 million, NZ$10 million, €6,483,000) would be specifically earmarked for renewable energy and improved energy efficiency in the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu.

Kiribati is heavily dependent on diesel fuel for most of the energy available on the national power grid, which supplies power to half Kiribati’s population of 110,000. In addition, a third of the country’s population lacks access to electricity. Once installation of the solar panels is complete, they are estimated to reduce diesel consumption by 230,000 liters (60,760 gallons) a year and give access to the electricity to some parts of the population that currently have no electricity. The European Union already has committed €100 million to sustainable energy in the region, with €10 million of that coming as a result of an announcement made last week.

In a press release about the news, Kiribati President Anote Tong was quoted as saying, “Kiribati faces big challenges it is remote, it is at risk from the effects of climate change, and it is vulnerable to economic shocks. […] Shifting Kiribati’s focus to reliable solar energy will provide a more secure, more sustainable power source for the country’s people.” Radio New Zealand International quoted Tong as saying, “It’s the first time we are doing this. We’re excited at the prospect of even substituting fossil fuel to a small extent at this stage. What the system being envisaged will only produce around 500 kilowatts, but this is the beginning of what I hope will be a pattern, the trend in the future.”

The European Union’s Fiji-based head of operations for the Pacific region, Renato Mele, supported alternative energy solutions like solar power for the region, but said that solar power had limitations because climate and environmental conditions sometimes meant batteries required to power the panels had a life of only 12 months, compared to other climates where batteries normally last five years. This created the potential to drive up standard operating costs. Mele has also noted these additional costs though are still lower than the cost of diesel power.

One News Pacific Correspondent Barbara Dreaver noted, “Governments will be able to put the money they (currently) spend on diesel into things like education and health.”

Home of Stonehenge builders found

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Scientists have uncovered the largest Neolithic settlement in the United Kingdom at the Durrington Walls and believe that the village was inhabited by the people who built the Stonehenge monument.

Scientists say that the village was built around 2,600 B.C., roughly when Stonehenge was believed to have been constructed, and housed over 100 people.

Inside the areas which would have been the interior of houses at the time, scientists also found outlines of what they think were beds and cupboards or dressers. Pieces of pottery and “filthy” rubbish around the site. Animal bones, arrowheads, stone tools and other relics were also discovered.

“We’ve never seen such quantities of pottery and animal bone and flint. In what were houses, we have excavated the outlines on the floors of box beds and wooden dressers or cupboards,” said Sheffield University archaeologist Mike Parker Pearson.

So far, the dig has revealed at least 8 houses roughly 14-16 feet square, but scientists say that they think there may have been at least 25 altogether.

The site was likely to have been occupied only seasonally rather than year-round and evidence suggests that a lot of “partying” went on at the location.

“The animal bones are being thrown away half-eaten. It’s what we call a feasting assemblage. This is where they went to party – you could say it was the first free festival. The rubbish isn’t your average domestic debris. There’s a lack of craft-working equipment for cleaning animal hides and no evidence for crop-processing,” added Pearson.

The Durrington Walls are approximately 2 miles from the Stonehenge site.

Different Categories Of Mortgages In Canada

Different Categories of Mortgages in Canada

by

D Morris

You need to settle for the mortgage that is best for your situation your tolerance for risk, economic conditions and your personal financial situation. Understand the different types of mortgage available in the Canadian market.

The mortgage companies in Canada allow for not just the traditional fixed rate and adjustable mortgage rates but have a variety of other options; there are variations to each of these basic mortgage plans.

The mortgage loans in Canada could be open mortgages or close mortgages. While the former lets you repay the mortgage without any penalty and are available in shorter terms, between 6 months and one year only, in the case of the latter the payment period is from 6 months to 10 years. Interest rates on open mortgages are at least 1% higher than in the case of closed mortgages.

You go in for this type of mortgage loan only if you are planning to sell off the house or property earlier than expected or are able to pay off the entire mortgage due to a sudden windfall, expected or unexpected! In a closed mortgage scenario, as much as 20% of the prepayment of the original principal is allowed. And if you would like to break the mortgage, the penalty is 3 months interest.

Check with the home loan broker or mortgage loan officer to know the latest on the clause of breaking a closed mortgage prematurely. You can even opt for a convertible mortgage that lets you change from a short-term to a long-term loan, in case your financial conditions change.

In the case of a conventional fixed rate loan, you’ll not suffer from the vagaries of the Canadian real estate market; whether the price of your property appreciates or depreciates, the amount you pay the bank stays the same. You know exactly how much you are paying off. This constant amount characteristic could also be the drawback of this scheme. And you would also have to pay higher initial rates.

A fixed-rate balloon has a lower rate than the conventional plan. However, the rates at payoff may not be very enticing and also the paying off of the balloon may require some refinancing. In the case of interest-only loan, even though the monthly installments are lower you would’ve to refinance or renew or repay early. If you are considering an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM), the advantage lies in the way the market behaves you could be paying at a rate proportional to the prevailing rates. The initial rate is low compared with the fixed rate loan. This is the standard ARM. If you are willing to pay a fee which would enable you to lock in the low rates when the rates fall, then the convertible ARM is another option for you. Here again, there is no stability in payment. In a two-step mortgage, the initial rate is fixed and there is a certain amount of risk as the future rate is unknown. Payments fluctuate in this case as well.

In a graduated-payment loan, you enjoy low monthly payments at the start of the repayment term. But payments increase with time and the mortgage lender could increase the premium. Negative amortization means the borrower ends up owing more money than the original loan amount, this could well be the case in the early years. In balloon ARM, the same disadvantages remain as in the case of a fixed-rate balloon. The drawback of going in for an interest-only ARM is that the principal amount is not reduced.

Before going in for any mortgage deal, speak with your mortgage broker. Even though the mortgage rates are largely the same across Canada, take the advice of several people before taking the plunge. Plus there could be minor variations that the different mortgage lenders in Canada offer.

Police report drug haul seizure worth up to £30 million in Brownhills, England

Monday, December 2, 2013

Police in the West Midlands in England today said nearly 200 kilograms worth of drugs with value possibly as great as £30 million (about US$49 million or €36 million) has been seized from a unit in the town of Brownhills. In what an officer described as “one of the largest [seizures] in the force’s 39 year history”, West Midlands Police reported recovering six big cellophane-wrapped cardboard boxes containing cannabis, cocaine, and MDMA (“ecstasy”) in a police raid operation on the Maybrook Industrial Estate in the town on Wednesday.

The impact this seizure will have on drug dealing in the region and the UK as a whole cannot be underestimated

The seized boxes, which had been loaded onto five freight pallets, contained 120 one-kilogram bags of cannabis, 50 one-kilogram bags of MDMA, and five one-kilogram bricks of cocaine. In a press release, West Midlands Police described what happened after officers found the drugs as they were being unloaded in the operation. “When officers opened the boxes they discovered a deep layer of protective foam chips beneath which the drugs were carefully layered”, the force said. “All the drugs were wrapped in thick plastic bags taped closed with the cannabis vacuum packed to prevent its distinctive pungent aroma from drawing unwanted attention.” Police moved the drugs via forklift truck to a flatbed lorry to remove them.

Detective Sergeant Carl Russell of West Midlands Police’s Force CID said the seizure was the largest he had ever made in the 24 years he has been in West Midlands Police and one of the biggest seizures the force has made since its formation in 1974. “The impact this seizure will have on drug dealing in the region and the UK as a whole cannot be underestimated”, he said. “The drugs had almost certainly been packed to order ready for shipping within Britain but possibly even further afield. Our operation will have a national effect and we are working closely with a range of law enforcement agencies to identify those involved in this crime at whatever level.”

Expert testing on the drugs is ongoing. Estimates described as “conservative” suggest the value of the drugs amounts to £10 million (about US$16.4 million or €12 million), although they could be worth as much as £30 million, subject to purity tests, police said.

Police arrested three men at the unit on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug. The men, a 50-year-old from Brownhills, a 51-year-old from the Norton area of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, and one aged 53 from Brownhills, have been released on bail as police investigations to “hunt those responsible” continue. West Midlands Police told Wikinews no person has yet been charged in connection with the seizure. Supplying a controlled drug is an imprisonable offence in England, although length of jail sentences vary according to the class and quantity of drugs and the significance of offenders’ roles in committing the crime.

Wikinews interviews World Wide Web co-inventor Robert Cailliau

Thursday, August 16, 2007

The name Robert Cailliau may not ring a bell to the general public, but his invention is the reason why you are reading this: Dr. Cailliau together with his colleague Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, making the internet accessible so it could grow from an academic tool to a mass communication medium. Last January Dr. Cailliau retired from CERN, the European particle physics lab where the WWW emerged.

Wikinews offered the engineer a virtual beer from his native country Belgium, and conducted an e-mail interview with him (which started about three weeks ago) about the history and the future of the web and his life and work.

Wikinews: At the start of this interview, we would like to offer you a fresh pint on a terrace, but since this is an e-mail interview, we will limit ourselves to a virtual beer, which you can enjoy here.

Robert Cailliau: Yes, I myself once (at the 2nd international WWW Conference, Chicago) said that there is no such thing as a virtual beer: people will still want to sit together. Anyway, here we go.
