Top Reasons You Should Consider Hiring Maid Services In Brooklyn

Click Here To Know More About:

byadmin

If you find that your house isn’t as clean as it used to be due to being constantly on the go, you might have considered hiring maid services in Brooklyn to help you with the cleaning. However, like most Americans, you feel that having someone else clean your home makes you lazy and have put it off. With that being said, read on below for a few of the reasons it’s okay to hire a house cleaning service to keep your home spotless for you.

If You Work Full-Time

Face it; it’s hard enough to keep a house spotless if you are home all of the time. If you work from 9 to 5, five or six days a week, it’s nearly impossible. Not only does using your limited time off to clean your house sap your energy, but it also limits the amount of time you get to spend with your family. If you hire a service to come in a few days a week even, you’ll find you have more energy for the things that matter in life like your husband and children.

Your Family Life is Busy

When you spend most of your time cleaning, cooking, and taking care of your kids, it’s hard to find the energy for date nights or trips to the amusement park. If you try to do all of it, then you are going to burn quickly out, and it can even affect your health in a negative way. Coming home to a clean house after a trip out with the family can put you in a good mood and give your health a boost as well.

These are just a couple of the reasons you should consider hiring eMaids to take care of your cleaning needs. Call them today; they are standing by to serve you!

Swedish nuclear reactors shut down over safety concerns

Saturday, August 5, 2006

Correction — August 14, 2006 This article reports that the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant reactor cooling systems failed. This is incorrect. Two of the four emergency diesel generators supplying power to the plant failed to start as expected, during a reactor shut down. The emergency cooling system, which functioned normally was sufficient to meet the reactor’s needs. Wikinews apologises for the error

Three of Sweden’s ten nuclear reactors have been shut down due to safety concerns following an incident last week at the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant, in which the reactor cooling systems failed. The reactor has since been shut down there. After the incident, the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate, SKI asked all the nuclear power plants to demonstrate that the same failure could not happen in them. On Wednesday, two more reactors at Oskarshamn were shut down after the operator said their safety could not be guaranteed.

Last week’s incident at the Forsmark plant was triggered by a short circuit that cut power to the reactor cooling system. Two of the four backup generators also failed to start, but the remaining two worked and were sufficient to meet the plant’s needs. Greenpeace reports that the fault in the backup power systems were traced to new equipment installed in 1993.

The spokesman of the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate Anders Bredfell denied that there was any danger of a meltdown, adding that there was also a backup gas turbine to power the cooling system in an emergency.

However, Lars-Olov Höglund, who was responsible for the nuclear plant Forsmark for many years, said the incident was the most dangerous one since Chernobyl and Three Mile island, and that a meltdown was avoided only by pure luck. His views have however been questioned as he is involved in litigation with the Swedish nuclear industry and is known as an outspoken nuclear critic. Researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology as well as the personnel at the power plant were critical of Höglunds’ view.

Speaking to BBC News, SKI spokesman Anders Bredfell said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was informed of the incident as required and that the incident classes as a ‘2’ in the 0-7 scale used by the IAEA to assess the severity of the incident.

Another reactor in Forsmark and a fifth at Ringhals nuclear power plant have been offline due to planned maintenance work. With five of its ten reactors down, Sweden’s power generation capacity is down by almost a fifth.

The environmental group Greenpeace called on the government to shut down all reactors and probe whether the fault was a generic one. The Green Party has called for an independent investigation of the incident. Sweden is scheduled to retire all its nuclear power plants in the next few decades, as decided by a referendum in 1980.

American actor Morgan Freeman in serious condition after car accident

Monday, August 4, 2008

American Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman is in reported to be in serious condition but good spirits in a Tennessee hospital following a single car accident in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi in the Mississippi Delta. The 71-year-old actor was flown to the hospital by air ambulance with injuries to one arm.

Freeman, the Associated Press reports, “has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage, but is in good spirits,” according to a statement from Donna Lee, Freeman’s publicist.

Reports say that Freeman was driving Demaris Meyer — the owner of the 1997 Nissan Maxima — when the car flipped over two or three times around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night. Meyer’s condition has not been released. Meyers is reported to be a 48 year old family friend visiting from Memphis.

According to reports, Freeman over-corrected the vehicle when he may have dozed and began to go off the highway, causing the car to flip two or three times before landing in a ditch. The accident occurred on Highway 32 just north of Ruleville, Mississippi not far from where Freeman currently resides.

Clay McFerrin, editor of the Sun Sentinel in Charleston, told the Associated Press he arrived at the accident scene soon after the accident. “They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle,” McFerrin told the Associated Press. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”

Freeman was one of the stars of the recent film The Dark Knight and is currently being treated at Memphis Regional Medical Center along with Meyer. Spokeswoman Kathy Stringer says that “Freeman is in a serious condition,” but did not comment further. The hospital, known locally as “The Med” is an acute care facility for up to 150 patients.

According to Sgt. Ben Williams of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, “there’s no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved” in causing the accident. He also said that both Freeman and Meyer were wearing their safety belts.

Coping With Asperger’s

By Sharon Campbell

What is Asperger’s Syndrome?

Asperger’s syndrome is a developmental condition which affects children enabling them to have effective communication skills. Just like autism, a child suffering from this condition may seem to be uncomfortable and isolate himself from others. Children with Asperger’s seem to have eccentric behaviors. They seem to be absorbed by one object for quite sometimes. They also have poor social skills. They seldom have eye contact, facial expressions and most of the time, they seem awkward. Unfortunately, the cause of this condition is unknown and it has no cure.

How is Asperger’s Syndrome diagnosed?

If you suspect your child to have this condition, bringing him or her to a doctor is a good idea. The doctor will ask you series of questions regarding your child’s behavior. Your child will undergo series of tests analyzing his ability to communicate, express, read and write. Intellectual, emotional and psychological evaluations may be done as well. Evaluation might be made by a number of doctors since Asperger’s is a bit hard to diagnose. Some may even mistake it for other developmental problems such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD.

How is Asperger’s Syndrome treated?

As mentioned earlier, there is no exact cure for Asperger’s. The doctors will only recommend medications and therapies to lessen its severity and help the child cope and live to his optimum potential. There are no exact medications for Asperger’s, but the doctor can prescribe drugs to relieve depression, anxiousness and agitation which the child can manifest anytime. Therapies are also advised to improve the child’s ability to communicate and understand people, and to improve his social skills. They are taught the right way of expressing how they feel and how to understand non verbal cues such as eye contact, facial expressions and other gestures. The child is also taught of ways to cope with certain situations such as going to school, meeting other people or transferring to another location.

How can a parent help the child cope?

Parents have the most important role in helping the child cope with this condition. They are the ones who have been with the child and are well-oriented about the situation.

You can learn about Asperger’s. Education and information are very important in order to understand what your child is going through. You can ask your doctor, read medical books or journals, and research over the internet about the condition of your child. You can also read ways on how to cope with your child, especially during hard times.

Be familiar with your child’s behavior. Not all children with Asperger’s manifest the same symptoms and characteristics. By being familiar with your child’s behavior, you also learn how to deal with it. Just have patience in going through tough times and show your child how supportive you can be.

Be active in therapies. Your child will undergo therapies until he or she is able to adjust. Be present in therapies so you can learn more about your child and his or her condition. Talk to the professionals in charge of the sessions so that you can also become part of the team.

Inform people about your child’s condition. Some parents may be hesitant about telling people about their child, but it is important to let others know about it. Inform the school, teachers, and people in your neighborhood about your child’s condition so they can also adjust to your child. Since children with Asperger’s may have awkward social skills, others may misinterpret this and be judgmental if they are not properly informed.

Disabilities attached with Asperger’s Syndrome may be difficult to deal with, especially if it happens to your family. With proper education, the right team of medical professionals, and an understanding environment, your child can live with his best ability to cope with life.

“World Can’t Wait” protesters rally outside the White House

Friday, February 10, 2006

Washington, D.C. —

On a rainy Saturday, February 4, 2006, several thousand protesters gathered in a corner of the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. to protest the current administration’s stance on the War in Iraq and to demand that President Bush be impeached or resign as Commander-in-Chief.

Saturday’s demonstration that lasted through five hours of rain ended with a march around the White House was organized by a group called World Can’t Wait – Drive out the Bush Regime. The group organized a smaller rally near the Capital during the State of the Union.

Demonstrators came from as far away as Hawaii; New York sent 12 buses. However the crowd was significantly less than the 30,000 protesters that organizers had anticipated. The actual numbers were more like 2,000 to 3,000 and varied with the strength of the rain. Park Police refused to comment on the size of the crowd.

A series of speakers included a 96 year old great grandmother, and a Georgetown law student that led a protest against a speech given by Attorney General Gonzales. The speeches were followed by the dropping of a 30 foot wire effigy of President Bush from the stage. The crowd, which had already been in a frenzy, chanted in unison: “Bush step down! Bush step down!” After it fell, protesters kicked and cursed at the fallen mass of chicken wire and construction paper.

Some protesters got more visual and burned a mock US flag that contained corporate logos instead of stars as at least one protester yelled that the flag burners were “FBI Plants.”

The rally ended with a march around the White House through closed streets escorted by the Capital Police and the Uniformed Division of the United States Secret Service. A group of ten to fifteen counter-protesters waited in front of the White House and although cursing was traded, the obvious police presence kept the scene peaceful.

CN Health & Safety Plan planned to be cancelled

Monday, August 29, 2005

On July 18, 2005 CN Rail notified the CAW that they intend to cancel the CN-CAW previously Negotiated Health & Safety Plan. The CAW will be going to arbitration this fall to address the issue. The CAW has asked that employees notify their Health and Safety Rep about any safety concerns at the work place.

One terminal has lost 5-6 full-time positions. CN Rail used to have part-time positions filled as well, but at this time there are no part-time employees to cover work if a full-time employee is absent. Overtime is necessary to keep the trains running on time. Intermodal traffic goes up, but staff goes down. CN Rail expects the trains to go out on time, and in a safe condition, but staff is overworked, because there are not enough of them. In fact, one worker noticed that most of the rail cars that contained 40 foot overseas containers did not have their loading guides in place. Trains are not allowed to go out without these guides placed into the cars (the guides stop the loads from swaying from side to side in the cars), important for safety with double stacked containers, but it seems that in this case the lack of employees forced the train to leave without them.

Some recent derailments have come to the attention of the media and politicians.

On August 3rd 2005 there was a derailment in Wabamun Lake Alberta that spilled toxins into the lake. 2 days later there was a derailment in Cheakamus River near Squamish BC. Both derailments spilled hazardous materials into the water. Many are saying that CN took too long to notify people of the toxic spills.

The Conductor on each train carries with him the shipping manifest with him and has access to that information at all times. Almost any CN terminal that has a clerk working at it with access to the CN Intranet can get this information within minutes.

CTV news has said that this is the 5th derailment for CN this month.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.
